Smart Girls at the Party

Ever heard of “Smart Girls at the Party”? Started by Amy Poehler and two of her good friends, it’s an online series that focuses on the hobbies and talents of young girls. As Poehler says at the beginning of every episode, it’s “a show that celebrates extraordinary individuals who are changing the world by being themselves.” In each episode, Poehler interviews a different girl about her interests and then visits her home so the interviewee can show off her talents. Not only is it a smart show that emphasizes what is wonderful about young women (without any mention of physical appearance) but it’s fun and inspiring to watch the interviewees show off what makes them special.

Every episode is worth watching but if you’re going to pick just one, make sure to watch “Ruby, the Feminist.” At 7 years old, Ruby has already declared herself a feminist who believes that “boys and girls are of equal value.” If that’s not inspiring, I don’t know what is:

Another one of my favorites (probably because I love to cook) is “Anna, the Chef.” Not only is it fun to see a young woman talk about how much she loves food, but you’ll also learn a recipe for bruschetta. Plus, make sure to check out the cast of “Parks and Recreation” dancing at the end:
